Fever

Seeing snow on the ground for two months straight makes one develop a deep yearning on the inside. It is beyond the run of the mill spring fever that descends every year. This year there is a desperate feeling of desire that you can see in the eyes of the locals. We scan the trees for glimpses of buds and talk incessantly of the daffodil shoots that have cautiously poked their heads up the past few weeks..staying mostly in the ground as the snow continues to fall.

I have taken things into my own hands and drastically changed my hair. If I cannot see flowers on the ground I decided that I must go blonde. I also bought a sun dress. Winter be damned! I am living like it is spring. The sun dress hangs expectantly in my closet, knowing it is too soon for her glory, but oh, how glorious she shall be in a few short months. And every time I pass by the mirror I smile as I see a burst of light, yellowish glow on the my head..the color of daffodils.

Still spring slumbers on. We breathe deeply, resisting the urge to shake her awake with primal cries of desire. Patience is a virtue lost on those of us in the mountains.
We are ready.
